Working in Roanoke
Nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Roanoke offers a wealth of opportunities for recreation, culture and the arts. Known as the “Star City of the South,” Roanoke combines the best of a medium-sized city—a wide range of great restaurants, entertainment and the arts—with an abundance of recreational activities nearby. Location

The Roanoke Valley is conveniently located along Interstate 81 and close to Interstates 64 and 77. We are almost exactly equidistant between New York and Atlanta, and within a day's drive of two-thirds of the United States population.

The Valley is made up of the counties of Alleghany, Botetourt, Craig, Franklin and Roanoke; the cities of Covington, Roanoke and Salem, and the Town of Vinton. More than 314,800 people call the Valley home and more than 1,000,000 people use it as their regional center for health care, transportation, employment, shopping, and entertainment.

Schools

Roanoke is located within 60 miles of 19 colleges and universities, many of which are national award-winners in academics, research, and the arts.

The Roanoke Valley’s six school systems offer unique and innovative programs to meet the needs of every student. The Department of Education has recognized Roanoke Valley schools among the nation's best. There are 62 elementary schools, 14 middle schools and 11 high schools in the area.
