Through Delta Dental's Smart Smiles In the Community program, we support numerous initiatives designed to improve oral health and enhance quality of life in communities throughout Virginia. Delta Dental of Virginia plays a significant role in oral health initiatives across the state, including:

Missions of Mercy ®

Delta Dental of Virginia is a strong financial supporter of Missions of Mercy (MOM) projects, an initiative of the Virginia Dental Association Foundation, to provide urgently needed dental care to adults who cannot afford dental care. MOM projects are conducted in underserved areas of the state where there are not enough dental practitioners to adequately address the community's oral health needs.

Give Kids A Smile ®

Give Kids A Smile, sponsored by the American Dental Association, is a national event designed to address the epidemic of untreated oral disease and ongoing challenges low-income children face in accessing dental care. This event provides free oral exams, cleanings and scheduling of follow-up care to needy children over the course of just one day. In Virginia, Give Kids A Smile is made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Virginia Dental Association, Delta Dental's Smart Smiles, dental professionals, school officials and countless volunteers. Delta Dental of Virginia is proud to support more than 40 Give Kids A Smile events in 36 different areas of Virginia.

bigMouth

bigMouth, the 7 feet tall model of the human mouth, sponsored by Delta Dental of Virginia, serves as the oral health section of the Science Museum of Western Virginia's Healthy Bodies Gallery. As the gateway to the Healthy Bodies Gallery at the museum, bigMouth includes 39 computerized, interactive touchpoints to demonstrate the importance of oral health and the link between oral and overall health.

Delta Dental's Pro-Am For Kids

Through Delta Dental's Pro-Am for Kids, the Boys & Girls Clubs partner with First Tee of the Roanoke Valley to introduce and engage Boys & Girls Clubs members in the sport of golf. Professional golfers team up with local corporate golf teams and all proceeds benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southwest Virginia. Since its inception in 2000, Delta Dental's Pro-Am for Kids has raised more than $600,000.
