Delta Dental of Virginia Dental Practice Relief Fund

Delta Dental of Virginia Dental Practice Relief Fund

Applications for the Dental Practice Relief Fund are now closed. The Dental Practice Relief Fund was created to provide financial support for our network dentists as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. Participating dentists who met the following criteria were eligible to apply:

  • Participating dentist should be applying on behalf of a practice located in Virginia.
  • Dentist participates in one or more of the Delta Dental networks.
  • The practice is privately owned by a dentist(s) with no venture capital or corporate support. Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), Community Health Centers (CHC) and Large Multi-State Dental Service Organizations (DSOs) are not eligible for this program.
  • Only one application per Tax Identification Number (TIN).
We recognize that the impact of COVID-19 has been felt by all practices across the state. You may visit the Virginia Dental Association website for information on available federal aid.

What is the Practice Relief Fund (PRF)?

  • Through the PRF, the Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation will assist the dental practices in Virginia that have been significantly affected by the COVID-19 outbreak and do not have a sufficiently strong financial position to reasonably sustain the practice through the recommended closure.
  • The PRF provided up to $250,000 in grants to Delta Dental of Virginia participating dental practices.
  • Individual grants ranged in size, up to a maximum of $7,500 per TIN.
  • Delta Dental of Virginia evaluated applications with a goal of distributing funds to those in greatest need and providing as much assistance to as many practices as possible.
  • The criteria was based on factors that contribute to financial hardship, including how long a provider has owned a practice, the number of staff in a practice, dental education student loan debt and practice purchase debt. The location of practices in lower health equity areas were also considered.
  • We asked dental practices that were in a strong financial position or had other means of supporting their practice that they not apply for the PRF so that we could provide funds to those practices with the most acute need.
