2021 grant recipientsThe Delta Dental of Virginia Foundation is excited to announce $576,100 in grants awarded to eight Virginia safety-net providers focused on meeting the most critical oral health needs in Virginia. Grant recipients throughout the state plan to use the funds to advance positive oral health practices and expand access to dental care in Virginia.
Bradley Free Clinic will use grant funds to expand its VCU training program. The Clinic plans to increase access to dental services by bringing a dental hygiene student to the facility each week, allowing them to provide much-needed dental cleanings and to begin offering monthly silver diamine fluoride services.
Child Health Investment Partnership (CHIP) is using grant funds to provide comprehensive home visits focused on oral health and medical case management, preventive care and a school-based oral health education program to families living in poverty in the greater Roanoke Valley, prioritizing bilingual families not eligible for Medicaid.
Eastern Shore Rural Health System, Inc. will use its funds to create a school-based dental program in Northampton County. The program will initially offer preventive services five days a week and will eventually expand to permanent on-site offices at area schools and offer restorative and surgical services, as well as daily year-round access to care.
Free Clinic of Central Virginia is leveraging grant funds to increase access to same-day or next-day dental care for individuals experiencing dental pain, thereby reducing utilization of the emergency department or urgent care clinics and creating a pathway for patients to access routine preventative and restorative dental care.
Western Tidewater Free Clinic's grant funds will support a project to expand the clinic to serve more patients by doubling the capacity of its dental suite. The expansion will add 990 square feet to the current facility footprint, expand the eligibility department and potentially provide more space for mental health visits.
